We had the privilege of working with a customer and his mom on back-to-back roof replacements right here in the historic part of Waterloo. Two homes on the same block, both owned by the same family. That kind of trust means a lot to us.

Both homes got OC Duration Class 3 shingles in Teak - a warm, earthy tone that works really well against the blue siding on these older homes. The Class 3 impact resistance rating is no small thing either. Iowa weather isn't kind, and having shingles that can take a beating from hail and wind gives homeowners real, tangible peace of mind. It's not just about looks.

The process starts with a full tear-off, fresh decking where it's needed, and then underlayment before a single shingle goes down. We use VPR Ultimate Pro synthetic underlayment as a moisture barrier across the whole deck - it's a heavy-duty layer of protection that sits between the decking and the shingles. On older homes especially, that step matters.

Older homes in historic neighborhoods have character worth preserving. They also tend to have rooflines with more complexity - multiple pitches, flat sections, and details that require careful attention during installation. We approach every section of the roof the same way, whether it's a steep pitch or a low-slope area that needs its own membrane treatment.

An aging roof on a home you care about isn't something to sit on. The longer it goes, the more risk you're taking with what's underneath. If your roof is showing signs of wear, we're here and we know what to look for.
